Place hamburger, 1 can of juice and salt in a large kettle. Mix together well with your hands (like meatloaf).
Cook over medium heat until meat is cooked through.
While meat is cooking place onions and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan and cook until almost tender. Do NOT overcook! Set aside, but do not drain the liquid off.
Once the hamburger is done, drain the grease it well. Return the hamburger to your kettle.
Add in chili powder, pepper and sugar. Stir and mix really well.
Add in onion and about 1/2 of the other can of tomato juice and the tomato paste. Keep adding juice until you have the consistency you want.
Stir until all is well incorporated.
Cook gently until thick enough for your hot dog sauce.
It will thicken as it cools.
Serve over hot dog with mustard and coleslaw.

This makes a very large batch.....great for a big party. It's like a chili dog without the beans.
