White Bread

Course: Breads & Rolls
1st Gen Author: Janene Jensen

Ingredients

  • 2⅔ cups warm water
  • 3 Tbsp instant yeast
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 tsp salt
  • cup oil
  • 6-7 cups flour

Instructions

  • In mixer, combine warm water, yeast & sugar.
  • Add salt & oil
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time while mixing.
  • Mix till dough cleans sides of bowl-if it’s not doing this add just a little more flour, but not too much or else it will make the bread dry.
  • Knead dough for approximately 6 minutes.
  • Let rise until double in size.
  • Punch down and form into desired shape. Let rise again until double in size.
  • Bake @ 375 for 25-30 minutes
  • Remove immediately from pan, butter tops with butter.

Additional Notes:

  • If you do add too much flour you can add a little cooked oatmeal, mashed potatoes or applesauce.
  • For a variety you can add cinnamon chips after you have let the dough raise the first time (before you put it into bread pans) and you have cinnamon bread.
  • If you don’t have cinnamon chips you can also roll the dough out like you do for cinnamon rolls and generously butter it and add a generous amount of cinnamon.  Roll up like you would cinnamon rolls.  Cut into 2 loaves.  Place into greased bread pans.  This is excellent!

Note from Emily:

  • This is my Go-To recipe from everything from bread, dinner rolls, any kind of sweet roll, bread sticks, pizza crust, etc. You name it, I've used this recipe to make it.
  • If I'm in a rush, I knead it for 10 minutes (or a little longer), shape it, and let it rise once. There may be a slight difference in the texture of the bread but almost not noticeable.
  • Your flour matters! Choose bread flour for this recipe…you won't regret it.
