Soft Baking Powder Biscuit

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt.
  •  Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Beat egg and milk; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  • Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to ½-in. thickness.
  •  Cut with a 2-½-in. biscuit cutter; place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 450 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

This is a biscuit that holds together very well. Not as crumbly as most biscuits.
