I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. I know that he restored his church through the prophet Joseph Smith and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) is the only true church on the earth today. I know that God the Father and his Son appeared to Joseph Smith in that sacred grove near Palmyra, New York. I know that Moroni, a prophet in the Book of Mormon, appeared to Joseph Smith as a resurrected being, preparing and directing him to translate the Book of Mormon. That great book is the work of God and truths grace its pages inspiring testimony and goodness to all who read and study with a sincere heart.
I haven’t always known the truths expressed above but have always believed them. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in the church and to have the foundation of early learning. Throughout my life my thoughts have not been certain about the truths of the gospel, Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. Even on my mission in the British Isles wonderment frequented my mind if I KNEW the gospel was true. The words of President Spencer W. Kimball strengthened me, while in England, when he said words to the effect: Would you go on a mission for the Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, or any other church? For me the answer was no. Would you be willing to say the Book of Mormon was false and declare it? For me the answer was no an all accounts. That comforted me to know I have always known, in a very simple way, the gospel is true! Since then I have contemplated how I loved to sing primary songs as a child, loved to listen to a missionary farewell or homecoming remarks. I thrill to hear special musical numbers, especially in missionary sacrament meetings, in all meetings. Many experiences have come and gone, my testimony has grown. Though there have been some momentous times where the spirit was and is very profound. My testimony has grown slowly and steadily throughout my life. I hope and pray it will continue to grow.
