Gingerbread Cookies
Ingredients
Simmer on stove for 15 minutes:
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup molasses
Cream together
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
Dissolve:
- 2 tsp soda
- ½ cup hot water
add to sugar mixture then add molasses mixture.
Sift:
- 6 cups flour
- ¼ tsp cloves
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp ginger
Instructions
- Combine both mixtures together and mix well.
- Roll out thin and cut out shapes.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

I saw this recipe posted on Facebook by Janet Edwards (our cousin). She claimed it was a family favorite for her. I wanted to make sure we had it in our cookbook.
