Bottled Tomatoes

Instructions

  • Use clean washed tomatoes, put into boiling water until skins crack (no more than 1 min.), put into cold water and skins will slide right off.  Cut into 4 pieces and put into a large pan. 
  • Add 1 tsp of both sugar and salt.  You can also add 4 – 5 chopped green peppers and 2-3 chopped onions for better flavor.  Stir on the stove until it comes to a boil.  Reduce heat to med. heat and continue cooking for 20-25 min. 
  • Put into sterilized jars and use sterilized lids.  Put jars into a water bath canner.  Bring to a boil and process for 25 min.

This is a recipe from a lady in our ward who got it from her grandmother.  This can be used for any red sauce.
