Basic Sourdough Starter

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp yeast
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups warm water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients.  Beat well with a wooden/plastic spoon (not metal).
  • Cover, let sit in a warm place.  Fermentation will dissolve remaining lumps.  Let ferment for 2 to 3 days.  Stir everyday. Refrigerate after fermentation occurs.
  • To replenish starter add equal amounts of flour and water (for instance 1 c water, 1 c flour)
