Gingerbread Cookies

Course: Cookies & Bars

Ingredients

Simmer on stove for 15 minutes:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup molasses

Cream together

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Dissolve:

  • 2 tsp soda
  •  ½ cup hot water

add to sugar mixture then add molasses mixture.

Sift:

  • 6 cups flour
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ginger

Instructions

  • Combine both mixtures together and mix well. 
  • Roll out thin and cut out shapes. 
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Notes

I saw this recipe posted on Facebook by Janet Edwards (our cousin).  She claimed it was a family favorite for her.  I wanted to make sure we had it in our cookbook.
